JON ALDERMAN

Hey I’m Jon Alderman

I’m a freelance graphic designer specialising in apparel and print design. I have a passion for rock, metal music, horror, tattoo culture, movies, combat sports and art.

I have always had an interest in art and creative outlets since I was a kid. In my teen years I studied graphic design GCSE’s and A Levels. But going to school in the 90’s and 00’s meant that photoshop was much more basic than today and the internet being still a relatively new thing (yes I know how ancient that sounds). There were very few opportunities compared to todays design market. Even my graphic design tutor warned me not to go into this profession. Yes you heard that right!

After leaving school I still wanted to work in the industry and after a year working as a sign writer and creating logos for small sports clubs, my tutors words echoed in my ears. At 20 years old I finally made the grown up decision to get a big boys job and started my career in management for a corporate FTSE 100 company.

Needless to say, this wasn’t my long term ambition. Whilst working a full time job I kept up the art and worked on my skills and craft privately. Just making things because it was fun. I fell in love with photo manipulation and matte painting and really wanted to take this seriously. I started creating artwork for sale on online marketplaces and Print On Demand sites.

As I continued to work on my art I really started to think about how I could do this again full time. So, I continued to work my full time job as well as work on my art and started offering my services in my spare time. As this grew slowly over time, I was always on the cusp of leaving my steady and corporate job but never could take the leap. Until one day I received an email from a huge poster supplier that wanted to licence some of my work I created just for me. Just for fun.

This was the moment I decided to take the plunge and I haven’t looked back since.

Since working as a full time freelancer for the last 5 years, I have worked in niches and with brands, businesses and individuals that I really feel I can make a difference and above all love to work with. If I've learned anything. Doing what you love always pays off…. In the end…
